Sutton Hoo | Spiced Ginger & Wood
Sutton Hoo is the site of two Anglo-Saxon cemeteries, dating from the 6th and 7th centuries. In 1938, archaeologists led by Basil Brown, dug through sandy soil to find a ship buried centuries beforehand. An Anglo-Saxon royal burial was inside, a chamber full of the most extraordinary finds that changed our understanding of early Medieval England.
Mood: Along the banks of the Deben sits a landscape sculpted in memory. Ships buried in the earth, filled with exquisite gold and garnet from beyond this shore. Hands built and hauled ships from the waters, filled them with goods that showed care, homage and prestige to their dead.
Smells like: Ginger, spices, citrus, cinnamon leaf, jasmine, white musk and woods.
