Star Carr | Ancient Herbs and Mossy Cedarwood
Perhaps one of the most famous Mesolithic (middle stone age) sites in Britain, Star Carr dates to around 9000 BCE. This is a site that was inhabited just centuries after the last Ice Age. Buried deep in peat of an old palaeo-lake, Star Carr is known for its amazing preservation of artefacts and timbers – allowing us to know what prehistoric life beside the lake was like.
Mood: The sound of drums echo across the vast lake, freshly crushed nutmeg and clove is in the air, blending with earthy moss and roughly hewn wood under you. The air is crisp, the water cool, as the drums rise, pulsating in your chest, changing begins. A call of the ancestors settling in your bones. You have entered the Mesolithic.
Fragrance: Ancient herbs, burnt wood, moss, and nutmeg
