Maeshowe chambered cairn is a prolific prehistoric site found on Orkney. Built 5,000 years ago, the entrance is aligned to the setting of the midwinter sun and illuminated the tombs interior as it sets. It is part of prehistoric ritual past that we may never fully understand and we will always wonder about, but it is an enduring place within the Neolithic Heart of Orkney.
